In 1 John 4:18 it says “there is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear.” In the last few days, Christ has helped me to experience this more than I have before. I found that my sense of busyness during my workday was a form of stress, that its root was fear that I wouldn’t get enough done or would get the wrong things done. However, for several days this week, God has given me peace during the day. He has reminded me of my complete dependence on him, and of the fact that he knows everything and is all powerful. Walking in fear throughout my day is not only sinful, but saps my joy, and leaves me feeling tired.
Joy of the Lord
1 John 5:4 adds ” for everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith”. I am thankful that through working among Muslims, I am experiencing a greater faith in God, in His power, in His being in control and in His provision. As a result, I’ve felt more of His presence and less fear. It has made for very peaceful and productive days. It has made me more patient in listening to the kids and being more capable of joyfully helping my wife. Most of all though, there is a joy in being able to just rest in the arms of the Lord and to not feel that small nagging fear that I have grown accustomed to over the last 20 years of working in the States. Frankly it feels strange to have fear gone, but in a good way.
